The 2012 Paul Clouet Champagne is a delightful, affordable sparkling wine with soft bubbles, almond and brioche aromas, and stone fruit flavors, sourced from the prestigious Bouzy region.
Grapes were hand-picked exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards of the Bouzy sub-region of Montagne de Reims. The grapes were vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and did undergo malolactic fermentation. Sur lie aging was over 6 years, and dosage is at 7 g/L - Brut
The good news for Occasional Wine is that the US importers for Clouet, The Alchemists Imports, are neighbors and friends. This is one of our favorite everyday champagnes that’s also worthy of that special occasion. This one was really love at first sip with the 2011 offering. And really from someone who was more of a novice with sparkling wines, this was the wine that really opened up a curiosity that was not really there before. The softness of the bubbles, the almond and brioche nose, the stone fruit flavors that fill your mouth. You mean you don't need to pay hundreds to enjoy crazy delicious champagne?!!! No you do not. This is a woman-owned, sustainably farmed vineyard. The grapes are from the grand cru village of Bouzy, which is known as one of the best locations in Champagne for growing Pinot Noir, a specialty of Paul Clouet. Enjoy!
(100% Pinot Noir, 6 years on the lees, dosage 7g). Medium yellow. Cool nose, deep, moist stone, with more air, flowers and herbs, lemon balm, apple, citrus fruits, subtle bread crust and yeast notes. Structured and still youthful on the palate, powerful but with a lot of elegance and freshness, the 7g dosage is perfectly packaged, the wine shows a fascinating arc of tension, fluctuating somewhere between fruit and stone, between power and lightness. The finish is long-lasting and very balanced. A delicate, still youthful and very well-structured champagne from the top year 2012. I and especially my better half are blown away. Definitely has very good reserves. Now until 2027+, 18.5 vvPoints (93/100). A lot of wine for the money!
"...a powerful, pure, and structured Bouzy that requires a few years of patient aging to fully enjoy"
