A balanced and sweet Mosel Riesling Spätlese with lemon curd and minerality, ideal for spicy foods and capable of aging for decades.
Sustainably farmed grapes are harvested from 100 year old vines
Another fantastic Mosel Riesling. This one is sweeter than the others on our list. The term 'Spätlese' means quality late harvest grapes. These are not the sweetest of Rieslings in German quality wine hierarchy, but they are pretty sweet (172-209g per liter of sugar). The sweetness of these wines is tempered by very high acidity levels. Together, the acidity and sweetness balance well. We love these with super spicy foods. This one in particular is a gem. Lemon curd, pastry, great minerality, and again great balance between the acidity and sweetness. This one can sit in your cellar for decades.
The 2021 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Auction) offers a clear, intense and concentrated, complex and absolutely fascinating nose. Highly refined and elegant on the palate, this is a pure and salivating, immaculate yet mouth-tickling Spätlese with great complexity and a highly stimulating crystalline, saline and mineral structure.
A fabulous example of the category, combining richness with poise, this exciting mix of lemon curd, apricot pastry, grapefruit and slate minerality is somewhat lean and nimble, but with air reveals its brilliance. All flavors are intensely displayed on the finish where bracing acidity also emerges, leaving a mouthwatering impression. You can enjoy this now, especially with spicy food, but better to wait. Best after 2030.
