Experience the pure elegance of the Wachau with this outstanding Grüner Veltliner Smaragd.
Spontaneously fermented in stainless steel then élevage in steel with a small amount of neutral Austrian oak
Smaragd (pronounced "sma-rocked") is the top-tier dry wine classification from Austria's Wachau Valley, signifying the ripest, richest grapes (usually Grüner Veltliner or Riesling), requiring a minimum 12.5% alcohol and offering powerful, complex, and age-worthy dry white wines. This is an amazing representation of that. Hailing from the famous Ried Steinertal, it captivates with intense aromas of white pepper, ripe stone fruit, and a deep, saline minerality. On the palate, it is powerful, multi-layered, and perfectly balanced, with an impressively long finish. A Veltliner masterpiece with great aging potential.
This brilliant and concentrated Wachau gruner veltliner has a wealth of green bean, summer vegetable and garden herb aromas that I could study for hours. Super straight on the medium-bodied palate, with enormous mineral freshness driving the super-long finish. Long aging potential.
he 2023 Grüner Veltliner Steinertal Smaragd is picked on this terraced gneiss site, cooled by cold Waldviertel air that is channeled through gullies. Spicy ferns are open and enticing on the nose. A lovely frisson of white pepper is carried on lemony juiciness. The palate has the customary cut, the usual precision and exquisite tension. This is masterful, yet it has the mellower creaminess of 2023 without sacrificing its essential, cool character. The mid-palate concentrates pepper and yeast. Great work.
