Condrieu is a rich and elegant Viognier, showcasing stone fruit aromas and beautiful minerality, setting the global standard for the varietal.
Condrieu is the home of Viognier and to this day, the standard for Viognier on a global scale. This is a great example of that standard. While most Viogniers are light and crisp, this one has a bit of weight with lots going on. Great stone fruit aromas and flavors mixed in with beautiful minerality. It's rich and elegant. A true beauty!
Like ripe peaches poached in a spiced liquor. Full-bodied and very powerful indeed. It has huge extract, intense salinity, driving acidity and great opulence, flowing into a long finish. A huge Condrieu. Parcels in Chavanay, Condrieu and Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, at 250m altitude on average, south and southwest facing. Fermented in stainless steel, which finishes in barrique (10% new), where it spends 12 months. No racking, very little lees stirring.
Tasted blind. Spice, fennel and almond kernel. A good lick of freshness, ripe stone fruits and good concentration of fruit. Very weighty and rich, with good balance. Very long finish – pretty serious stuff!
