A South African Syrah noted for its aromatic elegance, mineral tension, and a structure that promises excellent aging potential.
Aged 12 months in 500L French oak barrels (50% new), followed by 10 months in 2000L Foudre, followed by 8 months in bottle before release.
Wow! This is an incredible Syrah from South Africa that stands up well to it's northern Rhône forebears. Big, rich, lush, and herbaceous. Another amazing wine from South Africa!
An incredibly balanced and complete wine, there are complex notes of fynbos, garrigue, dried herbs, black berries, cured meats, and black peppercorns tempered with a seductively generous vanilla pod spice. This wine is a pyramid of elegance, power, and precision, with its massive textural stone construction blocks just slotting into one another that little bit more tightly and more precisely than with the Granite or Iron cuvees, revealing an architecturally detailed wine with a very impressive fruit-acid balance, flavour purity, and a notable palate intensity. A very serious and accomplished benchmark effort for the vintage.
Fermented with 100% whole clusters, like all of the site-specific Mullineux Syrah, this is the most intense, backward and well-structured of the trio. Serious, compact and concentrated, it's a red that wouldn't look out of place in Cornas, with violet aromas, damson and blackberry fruit, sturdy tannins and the freshness and focus of a cool vintage.
