A ripe and sexy Cabernet blend that balances power with polish.
Aged 22 months in French oak (76% new)
This amazing offering is the inaugural "second wine" from the revitalized Bella Oaks estate in Rutherford. According to winemaker Nigel Kinsman and viticulturist David Abreu, it is designed to showcase the exuberant character of the estate's younger vines while remaining approachable in its youth. It certainly is delicious right now with at least another decade of pleasing wine enthusiasts. Lush dark fruits, chocolate, and spices coupled with velvety tannins that all come together in a long finish that leaves you wanting more. Damn fine wine!
The Le Genie bottling is primarily from younger vines off the Bella Oaks estate in Rutherford, along with some purchased fruit, including Cabernet Franc from Cappella and Petit Verdot from Ecotone. Bella Oaks is owned by Suzanne Deal Booth, with Nigel Kinsman as winemaker and Michel Rolland as consulting winemaker, with whom Kinsman has worked since 2003. It is super aromatic with pure blue fruit tones, fragrant capsicum, spearmint, and cedarwood. Plush and full-bodied, with velvety smooth, fine tannins and a profoundly rich core of dark-berry fruit nuanced by savoury herbs and Indian spices and a saline-mineral finish.
This pretty, elegant and refined red is full-bodied yet rather light in silky tannins. Made from 80% cabernet sauvignon, 11% cabernet franc and 9% petit verdot. Moderate tannins and a full body support red and black cherry, blackcurrant and spearmint flavors.
