The pinnacle of Uruguayan winemaking. A world-class wine and a true expression of the unique balasto (slate) terroir.
Aged 20 months in 25 and 50hl untoasted French oak barrels
We've had the opportunity to taste with the great folks at Garzón and really enjoy their entire portfolio. This is their best and it's pretty darn amazing. The nose is intense and layered, exuding concentrated aromas of black plum, dark cherry, licorice, and hints of smoked paprika. A signature flinty/slate minerality underpins the fruit. The palate is full-bodied and muscular, yet remarkably polished, showcasing velvety, firm tannins and a vibrant acidity that drives the powerful black fruit. The finish is profound, persistent, and impeccably balanced. Top tier!
The aromatics are impressive, with orange blossoms, sliced oranges and black fruit. Hints of tar with some minerals, fresh spices and chiles. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that run the length of the wine. They are polished and curated. Chewy at the end but there’s a finesse, tension and focus. 42% tannat, 39% cabernet franc and 19% petit verdot.
