A profound, hedonistic wine for serious collectors.
Aged 21 months in French oak barrels (86% new)
Intense and full-bodied, the 2019 'Ontogeny' opens with aromas of crème de cassis, black plum, coffee, and cedar. The palate is lavishly rich, featuring concentrated blackberry liqueur and black cherry, balanced by mocha and licorice. Velvety, polished tannins lead to a profound, lingering finish. A truly monumental wine.
A blend put together by Bevan from the single vineyards, the Ontogeny cuvée is year-in, year-out one of the greatest values in Cabernet Sauvignon. His 2019 Ontogeny is no exception, revealing a dense purple hue as well as rock star notes of crème de cassis, violets, tobacco leaf, and chocolate. It’s a big, classic Bevan wine and has remarkable purity, silky, polished tannins, and not a hard edge to be found. Don’t miss it!
The 2019 Ontogeny, made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, is deep garnet-purple in color. It tumbles from the glass with ready-to-go notes of blueberry pie, creme de cassis, and juicy black plums followed by hints of camphor, Chinese five spice, and licorice. The full-bodied palate is soft and juicy, with layers of exotic spices and black fruit preserves, finishing long with a minty lift.
