A well-balanced Barbaresco showcasing dried cherries and cranberries with savory, earthy notes and a firm tannic structure typical of Nebbiolo.
Aged 20 months in large oak casks before being bottled and aged an additional 6 months before release
This is a great representation of Barbaresco. The dried cherries and cranberries serve as a backdrop for loads of savory, earthy, and mineral notes. Layers of savory and sweet flavors and aromas are all so well balanced and integrated with a fair bit of tannin to remind you that you're drinking Nebbiolo.
Underbrush, new leather, tobacco and violet aromas take shape on Ugo Lequio’s gorgeous 2019 Gallina. It’s beautifully balanced and savory, delivering flavors of ripe cranberry, red cherry, cinnamon and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it energized while a saline note lends depth to the close. This is the best Gallina I've had so far from the winery.
The 2019 Barbaresco Gallina is a sharp and angular wine with a prominent vein of minerality with crushed limestone and metallic rust that frame dried cherry and redcurrant. These various aromas, both the savory and the sweet, find good balance. The Gallina shows a little more heft and natural fruit concentration in the 2019 growing season.
