Delight in the intense dark fruit and firm tannins of this single-vineyard Petit Verdot.
Aged 12-18 months in 25 and 50HL untoasted French oak casks
This is our first 100% Petit Verdot as it's the first that really just blew us away. We love the fruit and minerality here. It's big, but not overpowering. It should absolutely be accompanied by equally powerful meats, vegetables, or cheeses, but it's approachable and in the end just a darned good wine.
One of the varieties that has best adapted to the granite hills of Garzón, about 18 kilometers from the sea, is the petit verdot. It is used in the top blend of the house, Balasto, in at least 15% and also gives its quality to the Single Vineyard line. In this warm 2020, the selection of plots of the 11 hectares that the winery has offer a juicy petit, with many ripe and sweet black fruits, in the midst of an acidity that is strong enough to balance so much voluptuousness. A petit grande, with firm tannins, to keep for a couple of years.
Deep and shy on the nose, offering some wet stones, black cherries, blue fruit and blue flowers. This is bold and powerful with extremely tight tannins that grow on the palate. Would rate even higher were there a bit more mid-palate flesh to fill in the muscular structure. Drink after 2024.
