Experience the bright citrus and saline minerality of this refreshing Uruguayan Albariño.
Grapes from a single vineyard block (#27) are hand harvested, fermented in concrete, and aged in untoasted 600L French oak for 6 months
We're big fans of Albariño and most of our inventory comes from Spain's Galicia wine region, known for producing most of the world's best versions of the varietal. Well as it turns out, the climate in the coastal region of Uruguay where this version is produced, has pretty much the same climatic conditions, just on the southern hemisphere. Like many good Albariños, this one is absolutely refreshing, but we really loved the tropical fruits and underlying minerality here. This is an absolute gem of an Albariño.
This is Garzón's new white, which comes from a block (Nº 27) of just over a quarter of a hectare that faces the sea. Until the 2018 vintage, this block was destined for the Single Vineyard, but this year the winery team decided to separate it due to the concentration of flavors that this granite-rich soil offered them. Two-thirds of the wine was fermented in cement, and the remaining third in "lancero" barrels—elongated large-format containers named in honor of the cigar that Fidel Castro smoked. Returning to wine, this second vintage is even better than the first, which was one of the best whites in our 2020 Descorchados. This one has greater density, texture, and depth of flavors in a white that moves with delicacy and freshness and that has an imposing body that's big but very agile at the same time.
A bright, crisp white with aromas of fresh apricot, pineapple, lemon peel and chalk. It’s medium-bodied with sharp acidity and a refreshing, stony yet creamy finish with good length.
