Notes from critics

We LOVE Merlots and are saddened that so many California producers have moved away from them. Thankfully, there are still a handful that continue to produce amazing specimens. Count this single vineyard offering among those. Lush and opulent. Full of ripe dark fruits, cocoa, bits of spice and herb, and great tannin. Brilliant!

It comes barreling out with bold notions of juicy blueberries, baked plums, and fruitcake plus wafts of chocolate mint, fallen leaves, star anise, and spice cake. Full, rich, and impactful, the palate delivers a velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing with great length and a firework display of exotic spices.

The 2022 Roberta's Reserve State Lane Vineyard is wonderfully perfumed, with hints of sandalwood set against a backdrop of ripe cherries. It's full-bodied, plush, round and opulent, a bit less structured and yet richer than the 2021, finishing tannic yet still fresh on the finish.
