What a delicious Cabernet Blend from Chile's Maipo Valley. There is a lot going on here. Love the ripe plums here, but it's everything else that makes this wine special - vanilla, baking spices, tobacco, etc. Amazing!
Unlike its white counterpart, the Finis Terrae Red Blend is based on grapes from Macul, with a much smaller component from Buin. Partnering Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 13% Syrah, it handles its 75% new wood with aplomb, showing layers of mint, cigar-box, cassis and summer berries, fine-boned tannins and supporting acidity.
Savory and aged, with spiced quince, plums, cloves, tobacco, anchovies and dried orange peel on the nose. Some vanilla and sweet wood spices are still present, but the wine is really more about savoriness than anything else. Old-school in style but complex, with firm tannins, a medium body and a lengthy finish. Unique style. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah.
