Occasional Wine Note: As noted with the 2015 vintage, Massolino is synonomous with world class Barolos. The 2016 offering is so special, though, that Massolino decided to break the tradition of their white labels and here applied a black one. This is a collector's item to be sure. Moreover, of all the wine you might hold in your cellar, this one will likely be the last one standing. I'm not sure I can wait until Cellar Tracker's 2055 drink by date, though! Get it while you can.

  • Falstaff

    Critic Score: 99

Bright, powerful ruby with a fine garnet sheen. Inviting and intense nose with notes of cardamom, plum and raspberry, plus some pickled peach. Substantial and dense on the palate, opens with compact tannin in many layers, ripe, dark fruit, plus fine texture, in the finish there are emphatically earthy notes, long finish.

  • Wine Enthusiast

    Critic Score: 97

Rose, ripe black-skinned berry and dark spice aromas mingle with camphor and forest floor on this full-bodied red. Combining structure and finesse, the firm palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, black raspberry and licorice. Bright acidity keeps it energized. Give it time to fully develop. Drink 2026–2046.
