Occasional Wine Note: We happened upon this wine at a Costco in the San Francisco area, saw the 100 point rating, a price that screamed value, and just had to pick up a couple of bottles. It did not disappoint. This is a big wine full of dark fruit, cocoa, and earthy aromas and flavors. This one begs for well seasoned meat and/or earthy vegetables. This is a fantastic representation of the great wines of Chile.

Stunning aromas of blackcurrant, stone, blueberry and licorice. Also iodine. Floral. Perfumed. Full body, fantastic density of fruit and ripe tannins. It goes on for minutes on the palate with such energy and focus. Touch of chewiness on the finish. A complex and complete wine that delivers a generosity with firmness.

Flinty, earthy reduction still hovers on the nose and is displayed against smooth, dark fruit. The palate is dense, smooth, rich, and caramelised plum melds with hints of chocolate and cocoa. Freshness counters this while fine tannins have become pliable and are en route to smoothness. The finish is a high tone of freshness amidst all of this bundled but elegant richness.
